For this beach house in North Carolina, USA, our dealer ParmaTile worked closely with the client to create a maritime Delft tile fireplace that connects naturally with the coastal setting of the home. Together, they selected our P-47 Ships series, featuring historical ships and boats based on original 17th-century Delft tiles.

The series includes a variety of vessels from the period, including the iconic Dutch fluyt, merchant and trading ships, herring busses and several galleys. These types of ships played an important role in Dutch maritime history during the 17th century and are characteristic subjects found on antique Delft tiles from this period.

For the project, the tiles were painted in classic Delft blue on our Blue Mix, combining several subtly different base shades. Pinholes and a crackled finish were added to create an aged and varied surface across the fireplace surround.

As our dealer for this project, Parma Tile guided the client through the selection process and helped determine the right series, base shades and finishes for the fireplace. They worked directly with the client throughout the project, while we produced the tiles here in the Netherlands.

The finished project was photographed by Morgan Lytle, capturing the hand-painted details of the ships and the completed fireplace within its coastal setting.
