PCM-02 | Spider ‘curl’

The Spider ‘Curl’ corner motif Delft Tile (PCM-02) is a refined variation of the classic Spider motif. While sharing the same balanced structure and historic charm as PCM-01, this design features distinctive curled details, adding an extra touch of elegance. Painted throughout the 17th, 18th, 19th, and even 20th century, this motif has been a staple in Delft tile craftsmanship for centuries.

Like all corner motifs, PCM-02 can be used on its own, paired with plain tiles, or combined with decorated Delft tiles, making it a versatile choice for both traditional and contemporary interiors. Additionally, this motif can be applied to any tile in our decorated series, offering countless customization options.

The photos on this page display PCM-02 without the crackled finish and pinholes for a clean and refined look. These enhancements can, of course, be added to achieve a more aged and authentic appearance.

Hand-painted craftsmanship
Each tile is hand-painted by skilled artisans, ensuring the quality and detail that Delft tiles are known for. The Spider ‘Curl’ corner motif is available in traditional Delft blue, manganese, or custom colors upon request, allowing full flexibility to match your design vision.

A timeless tradition
Corner motifs have long been one of the most recognizable features of Delft tiles. While they were commonly used as decorative elements from the 17th century onward, tiles featuring only corner motifs became widely popular around 1900. In the 20th century it became one of the most important design decisions when creating an installation of Delft tiles.

Pinholes in the corners; pinholes replicate a historic production detail that remained common until approximately 1860. These small indentations were left by stabilizing pins used in the tile-making process and can be added to PCM-02 for a truly authentic and imperfect appearance.

Crackled finish; Crazing, or fine surface cracks, naturally develops on antique Delft tiles over time. This can be recreated with an optional crackled finish, adding depth and texture for a more aged look. If a cleaner, more modern aesthetic is preferred, the crackled finish can be omitted.
