PCM-02 | Spider ‘Curl’
The Spider ‘Curl’ corner motif is available in Delft blue, manganese, or custom colors upon request. This elegant variation of the classic Spider motif features curled details, adding a subtle decorative flourish while retaining a timeless structure. All corner motifs can be paired plain tiles, decorated tiles, or entirely on its own, and can also be applied to any tile in our decorated series.
The photos on this page show the Spider ‘Curl’ motif on our Grey mix base, with pinholes, but we can adjust and add any additonal details that suit your preference. Each tile is hand-painted, ensuring the quality and detail Delft tiles are known for.
Historic design
Painted from the 17th to the 20th century, the Spider ‘Curl’ has been part of Delft tile tradition for centuries. Its curled accents set it apart from the more minimal PCM 01, offering a slightly more decorative and elegant character. Tiles featuring only corner motifs became especially popular around 1900, and the Spider ‘Curl’ remains a refined and versatile choice for both classic and modern interiors.
Pinholes in the corners
Pinholes were part of the production process before 1860. The tile was cut out of clay and to keep it steady while cutting it, a wooden board was placed on top of it with two, three or sometimes even four pins entering the clay (and thus the tile). Adding this enhancement creates two of these pinholes in each tile. It contributes to the authentic and imperfect look and feel of the tiles.
Crackled finish
Crazing is a phenomenon that produces a network of fine cracks on the surface of Delft tiles (and other ceramics). It happens over time (decades, if not centuries). This enhancement is really a matter of taste, as many consider it to be part of the antique experience, while others prefer a tile without. If you are looking for an aged and imperfect look, it is very much worth adding it.
