P-13 series – Mix of seal life and mythical creatures

This is our P-13 series, inspired by the creatures of the sea. These Delft wall tiles are hand-painted, direct replicas of original 17th-century designs in blue.  The photos show the P-13 series decorated with the classic ox-head corner motif (PCM-20) on our Warm Mix tile base, finished with subtle pinholes and a crackled glaze. This is our standard setup, but as always, the look can be fully customized to suit your project.

32 unique animal scenes

All scenes are taken directly from 17th-century reclaimed tiles and recreated with great care. The series includes 32 different designs, ranging from real aquatic animals like frogs, soles, and flying fish to imaginative sea creatures such as mermaids and sea monsters. This broad variety makes the P-13 series perfect for larger surfaces, offering both pleasing aesthetics and playful storytelling. Each tile is hand-painted, with small variations in brushwork and detail that make every piece feel one-of-a-kind.

Pinholes in the corners

Before 1860, tile makers used wooden boards with small pins to steady the clay while shaping it, which left pinholes in the surface. Today, we replicate this traditional detail by including two pinholes per tile. As a result, the tiles retain the handcrafted, slightly imperfect charm that defines historic Delft tilework.

Crackled finish

Over time, Delft tiles naturally develop a fine web of surface cracks, known as crazing, which many see as a sign of age and character. To help recreate that aged appearance, we offer a crackled finish as an optional enhancement. While some prefer a cleaner look, this finish adds warmth, depth, and an unmistakably antique feel that suits this series beautifully.

Product disclaimer

We use traditional techniques to make our Delft tiles, and up to five artists may contribute to the painting process. Because of this, slight variations in size, color, and detail are to be expected, and celebrated. Although we don’t offer machine-like perfection, we do uphold a high standard of craftsmanship. These tiles are built to last and will continue to age gracefully for decades, or even centuries, to come.

You can buy our tiles by contacting one of our dealers through the 'find a dealer' page.
  • How can the tiles be cleaned?
Clean tile surfaces with a non-abrasive, mild and PH neutral cleaner. Neutral cleaners are devoid of acids, caustics, harsh fillers, or abrasives that could scratch the surface of the tile. Do not use abrasive cleaning pads, steel wool, metal brushes or scouring pads as these may scratch the surface of the glaze. Crackled tiles that will face regular wet use should be sealed after installation and periodically as needed.
