PCM-21 | Ox-head ‘large’

The ox-head corner motif Delft tile (PCM-21) is the larger version of this classic Delft motif, offering a bolder interpretation of the historic ox-head design. This motif was already in use during the first half of the 17th century, before the smaller PCM-20 version became the dominant choice in the second half of the century. Recognizable by its flowing, symmetrical lines, the motif gets its name from its resemblance to the shape of an ox’s head with horns.

The larger scale of PCM-21 makes it ideal for spacious layouts, where its repeating decorative pattern can fully stand out. It can be used on its own, paired with plain tiles, or combined with decorated Delft tiles. Additionally, this motif can be applied to any tile in our decorated series, offering countless customization options.

The photos on this page display PCM-21 in traditional Delft blue, painted on the grey mix with pinholes but no crackled finish, presenting a refined yet subtly aged look. The crackled finish can, of course, be added to further enhance its antique character.

Hand-painted craftsmanship
Each tile is hand-painted by skilled artisans, preserving the fine details that Delft tiles are known for. The ox-head corner motif (PCM-21) is available in traditional Delft blue, manganese, and custom colors on request.

A timeless tradition

The ox-head motif was already a prominent corner motif in the first half of the 17th century, making it one of the oldest and most historically significant Delft tile designs. While the small version (PCM-20) was widely used in early Delft tile production, the smaller PCM-20 version became more popular in the second half of the 17th century and remained the standard into later centuries. Today, both versions continue to be sought after for their historical authenticity and aesthetic appeal.

Pinholes in the corners; pinholes replicate a historical production technique that was common until approximately 1860. These small indentations, originally left by stabilizing pins, can be seen in PCM-21, adding to its historic charm.

Crackled finish; PCM-21 is shown without a crackled finish, offering a cleaner, more refined look. However, the optional crackled finish can be added to replicate the fine surface cracks that develop on antique Delft tiles over time.
