PCM-10 | Fleur-de-lis
The Fleur-de-lis corner motif Delft tile (PCM-10) is one of the most recognizable designs found on original 17th-century Delft tiles. With its stylized lily shape, this motif has a rich history, symbolizing royalty, faith, and artistic refinement. Most famously associated with French heraldry, the fleur-de-lis became a widely used decorative element throughout Europe and an enduring motif in Delft tile production.
This corner motif creates a repeating decorative pattern when multiple tiles are placed together, adding a sense of rhythm and elegance to tiled surfaces. It can be used on its own, paired with plain tiles, or combined with decorated Delft tiles. Additionally, it can be applied to any tile in our decorated series, allowing for endless customization possibilities.
The photos on this page display the Fleur-de-lis motif without the crackled finish and pinholes, showing a clean and refined appearance. These enhancements can, of course, be added to achieve a more aged and authentic look. The tiles shown are painted on the grey mix, creating a subtle yet varied background.
Hand-painted craftsmanship
Each tile is hand-painted by skilled artisans, ensuring the quality and detail that Delft tiles are known for. The Fleur-de-lis corner motif is available in traditional Delft blue, manganese, or custom colors upon request, allowing full flexibility to match your design vision.
A timeless tradition
The fleur-de-lis has been a prominent symbol in European heraldry for centuries, most famously representing French royalty and nobility. Its influence extended beyond coats of arms into decorative arts, architecture, and religious iconography. This motif was commonly used in 17th-century Delft tile production, where it became a classic choice for both large tiled surfaces and smaller decorative elements.
Pinholes in the corners; pinholes replicate a historical detail from Delft tile production before approximately 1860. These small indentations were originally left by stabilizing pins used in the tile-making process. Adding pinholes enhances the authentic, imperfect character of the tile.
Crackled finish; crazing, or fine surface cracks, naturally develops on antique Delft tiles over time. This effect can be replicated with an optional crackled finish, giving the tiles a gently aged appearance. If a cleaner, more contemporary look is preferred, the crackled finish can be omitted.
