P-39 series – Snake Star

The P-39 Snake Star series is a hand-painted reproduction of an original Delft tile set from the late 19th century. The tiles are painted in classic Delft blue on our Poarte-C shade and finished with pinholes to enhance their antique look. This is our standard configuration, but we’re happy to adjust the shade, finish, or details to suit your preferences.

4 unique scenes

This elegant series is based on a reclaimed Delft tile set featuring ornamental star motifs surrounded by flowing garlands. Often referred to as the Snake Star, this tile creates a striking decorative rhythm that completes its full pattern across every four tiles. The design reflects the refined style of the late 19th century, combining symmetry with soft curves for a look that is both classic and distinctive. Each tile is hand-painted, so while the design remains consistent, slight differences in brushwork give every tile its own subtle character, adding charm and individuality to any installation.

Pinholes in the corners

Before 1860, tile makers used wooden boards with small pins to steady the clay while shaping it, which left pinholes in the surface. Today, we replicate this traditional detail by including two pinholes per tile. As a result, the tiles retain the handcrafted, slightly imperfect charm that defines historic Delft tilework.

Crackled finish

Over time, Delft tiles naturally develop a fine web of surface cracks, known as crazing, which many see as a sign of age and character. To help recreate that aged appearance, we offer a crackled finish as an optional enhancement. While some prefer a cleaner look, this finish adds warmth, depth, and an unmistakably antique feel that suits this series beautifully.

Product disclaimer

We use traditional techniques to make our Delft tiles, and up to five artists may contribute to the painting process. Because of this, slight variations in size, color, and detail are to be expected, and celebrated. Although we don’t offer machine-like perfection, we do uphold a high standard of craftsmanship. These tiles are built to last and will continue to age gracefully for decades, or even centuries, to come.
