P-26 series – Fritillaria

The P-26 series is based on early 17th-century Delft tiles, each one featuring the elegant Fritillaria flower in a variety of colours and styles. The flowers are framed in a diamond shape and finished with a classic version of the  ‘Fleur-de-Lis’ corner motif. The photos show the tiles painted on a custom mix of Poarte-E, Poarte-F, and Poarte-G, with pinholes. This is our standard setup, but we’re happy to adjust the colours, base, or enhancements to suit your project.

16 unique scenes

These 16 hand-painted tiles are all based on a rare set of original 17th-century Delft tiles featuring the Fritillaria, also known as Snake’s Head. We’ve stayed as close as possible to the original designs to preserve their authentic feel. These tiles were often mixed (and still are) with tulips at the centre of the installation. You can find those tulip tiles here. With a wide variety of floral styles and shades, this set offers enough variation to keep your installation interesting and full of character. And since every tile is hand-painted, each one brings its own subtle uniqueness, making each tile their own artwork.

Pinholes in the corners

Before 1860, tile makers used wooden boards with small pins to steady the clay while shaping it, which left pinholes in the surface. Today, we replicate this traditional detail by including two pinholes per tile. As a result, the tiles retain the handcrafted, slightly imperfect charm that defines historic Delft tilework.

Crackled finish

Over time, Delft tiles naturally develop a fine web of surface cracks, known as crazing, which many see as a sign of age and character. To help recreate that aged appearance, we offer a crackled finish as an optional enhancement. While some prefer a cleaner look, this finish adds warmth, depth, and an unmistakably antique feel that suits this series beautifully.

Product disclaimer

We use traditional techniques to make our Delft tiles, and up to five artists may contribute to the painting process. Because of this, slight variations in size, color, and detail are to be expected, and celebrated. Although we don’t offer machine-like perfection, we do uphold a high standard of craftsmanship. These tiles are built to last and will continue to age gracefully for decades, or even centuries, to come.

Crackled tiles that will face regular wet use should be sealed after installation and periodically as needed.
