The ‘all-in mix’ is the mix to go with if you are aiming for the bold look Delft tiles are often known for. It contains all our 9 classic shades of white, which we developed based on 17th, 18th and 19th century originals. There are tones of grey, white, blue, green and even a bit of pink here and there. By adding the crackled finish and pinholes (read more below about these enhancements), the tiles will look even more aged, imperfect and authentic. Working with these tiles really adds an unique and elegant touch to every project.
The first photo shows the ‘all-in mix’ with the crackled finish and pinholes. The photos with an overlay show the base version of these tiles without enhancements and a selection of 16 tiles with the crackled finish and pinholes. Please read more about the possibilities below and in the specifications tab.
Pinholes in the corners; pinholes were part of the production process before 1860. The tile was cut out of clay and to keep it steady while cutting it, a wooden board was placed on top of it with two, three or sometimes even four pins entering the clay (and thus the tile). Adding this enhancement creates two of these pinholes in each tile. It contributes to the authentic and imperfect look and feel of the tiles.
Crackled finish; Crazing is a phenomenon that produces a network of fine cracks on the surface of Delft tiles (and other ceramics). It happens over time (decades, if not centuries). This enhancement is really a matter of taste, as many consider it to be part of the antique experience, while others prefer a tile without. If you are looking for an aged and imperfect look, it is very much worth adding it.
