How it all began
Poarte – Delft Tiles is a sister company of Regts – Delft tiles, which is the world’s largest expert dealer in antique Delft tiles made between c. 1580 and 1920. Both companies are run by Durk Regts. During the past years many clients of Regts asked for newly made and hand-painted Delft tiles as an alternative to the reclaimed ones. When exploring the possibilities potteries had to offer, Durk realised that there was not a real authentic alternative on the market. One which would be so close to the original tiles, that mixing them is possible without noticing it. Therefore Durk started a cooperation with a local pottery to develop everything from scratch.
The philosophy of Poarte
We started Poarte because we want to make sure that people will still be captivated by original Delft tiles in 400 years from now. To accomplish this we are continuing and preserving the tradition of tile-making while staying true to the original product. Therefore our Delft tiles are made as much as possible in the traditional way. The hand-painted scenes are based on scenes found on antique Delft tiles. It does not only allow us to offer our clients the famous look and feel original Delft tiles are known for, it also allows us to revive designs which are no longer known. In addition the tiles are available for many more people, as they are more budget friendly, not limited in their availability and save to use for all indoor tiling projects.
